Where I Belong
A place where I belong
No matter what
I know I am loved
Cared about and healthy.
Just like water
Home is always moving,
Never stopping.
Home is a evening by the campfire,
Telling stories and roasting s’mores
When you wake up in a tent,
Listening to the cardinals sing,
Or smell of old books and wood
Helping mom make gingerbread.
Dad setting the book
The word “Home” is different for everyone.
From rushing in the morning,
Trying to get to school,
To late night movies
With popcorn and candy.
The old baskets
That my grandfather used to collect.
Now waiting in the barn, in Grammies backyard.
Or snowflakes sprinkling onto my tongue.
Home is setting up the sprinkler in the backyard,
Running and laughing.
Pumpkin pancakes to celebrate the weekend.
Looking for salamanders and crayfish in the creek.
Home isn’t just the walls,
Or the key to the front door,
It’s the familiar scent,
Taste, sound, feeling.
I will never forget
No matter how hard I try.
Sometimes I forget to be grateful for my home.
But in the end,
Home is family and friends,
Christmas and Easter,
Love and care,
Home can be warm, safe, and uncertain,
But I always have my home in my heart
Where the best part about leaving for vacation,
Is being able to come home again.
A word of love and joy,
Happiness and cheer,
A place where I belong,
No matter what.
