The Meaning of Home
Home is my Mom rushing through the door.
Trying to not wake anyone as she gets some tea to pour.
Home is my Dad trying to work.
Ignoring my tap, as I practice my footwork.
Home is my Brother coming home from damp Montreal.
Rushing to greet our beloved dog.
Home is my Sister leaving the sun in Los Angeles.
We all know, it’s hard to abandon it.
Home is my Dad telling his age-old jokes.
Which could make anyone laugh, even us young folk.
Home is my dog slipping under the table at dinner.
Begging for scraps, he is always the winner.
Home is my bedroom, my calm sanctuary.
I feel warm, no matter the weather, nothing there could be scary.
Home is Family, all love and kisses.
It’s all that one could need, I will never miss it.
