Home Is Where The Heart Is

People say a home is just a house, A place you return to After a long day. “It’s just a building”, they say. “It’s just where you live”. But that’s not what home is for me. My home is my refuge, My safe place to rest. My home shelters me From the outside world. It’s a warm embrace, Welcoming me home like an old friend. My home is more than just a house. When I was young, I thought a home And a house were the same thing. But now I know that even though They look the same on the surface, If you dive into the depths You will find much more. My home is an ocean, Full of love and laughter, Warm meals and smothering hugs. It’s a mess of emotions that Can be overwhelming, but that’s What makes it mine. My home is not like my friend’s, Or my cousin’s, or my aunt’s. My home is mine because there’s Nothing else like it. I could leave my house, and I would not be sad, But my home I will never leave. That’s because my home is not a building, My home is wherever my family is. Thank you Habitat for Humanity, For helping people find their homes, Because sometimes all you need Is a paper, a pencil, And a whole lot of love. My home is where my heart is, And my heart Is my family.
