How I Feel About Home
I’ve always wondered what the difference is between a home and a house. Even though they often sound the same, to most people, they’re different. A home isn’t physical. It moves with you wherever you go. For example, when you go on a family vacation, you're still at home. Even though you walk into a hotel or an Airbnb that feels different from your own house, it’s still home because you’re with people you love and feel comfortable with. I read a book in class called The Breadwinner. The main character, Parvana, had to move houses regularly, but their habits never changed. They never lost their habits because their family stayed strong, and because of that, “home” never got lost. When their father got beaten and arrested, the feeling and thought of home changed because their protector, part of their family, was gone. Unlike a home, you can change houses. It’s just another house on the street. There’s more than one. A house is a practical necessity because it provides warmth, shelter, and a place to sleep. If I didn’t have a home, I would lose my memories of my family and friends, my joy, and the cozy feeling I have with them.
