Across the World is my Home
Last year, my mom and I boarded a ginormous Etihad plane and travelled for what seemed like an eternity to a place I call home. Home can mean numerous things, but to me it is my grandparents’ house. There in the blistering heat of India, I shared moments of love, pain and belonging. In India my grandparents’ house is a sanctuary to me where I unite with friends and family and where inspiring memories originate.
Home is a splash of colors with wondrous traditions and where family connects. No matter if your home is north, south, east, west, close or far or perhaps even half way around the world like mine, you should feel safe and protected there.
Every morning I sat on the tiled floor of my grandparents’ house as I waited for a special drink to get brewed. During the unsurprisingly noisy wait I heard birds chirping to the beat of street dogs barking followed by the sounds of chatty neighbors. When the tasty drink was ready my family and I would sit in a semi-circle and talk about all sorts of topics. It was not the soothing drink that was special, it was the love we shared.
Home is a four letter word that is more than just a word: it means having peace, having fun and most importantly being yourself. Across the world, is my home, but just one phone call away the feeling enlightens one again. Even though I am far away from my home it will always remain in my heart.
