Charlotte’s Meaning of Home

Charlotte never had a home, she was an orphan, at the Bright Mountain Orphanage. "You know the meaning of home?" asked Charlotte, "no, why?" Exclaimed Annabelle. "someone's getting adopted" stated Annabelle, "who?" Charlotte gasped, "starts with anna," Annabelle shrugged "Annabella, no she's new, Annalien she's young, maybe..." Charlotte began "LIGHTS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!" screamed Mrs. Runty-Donkey. The next day Charlotte saw Annabelle packing "what are...?" asked Charlotte "getting adopted today!" squealed Annabelle, "by who?" croaked Charlotte, "Little's, Annabelle exclaimed "write letters ok," Charlotte said, "can't, family uses a telephone," Annabelle cried, , "kids can't use telephone at the orphanage" wailed Charlotte, "bye," Annabelle sobbed. The next day Charlotte was being sent to a foster home and worse than last. This family ignored her, the only time they'd talk to her, is when they'd tell her, "Dye your hair, red's unnatural" or "cover up that scar." Charlotte hated those comments; one time they scolded her for writing with her left hand. Thank goodness she only had to stay there for a week. It had been a month since Annabelle got adopted, and when she went to that horrid home. Charlotte overheard the staff talking to someone. "She's affectionate and she is the only one with red hair," stated Mrs. Runty-Donkey "since her friend got adopted, she been depressed lately, that ok? Yes, I'll get the paperwork." This sounded like Charlotte was getting adopted. The next day she was packing up. She was nervous because of the terrible homes she's been to. But this home was different. They didn't tell her how to look or act; and they let her call Annabelle. Now Charlotte knew what the meaning of home was, it was a place that felt safe. Where friends and family see her. That's Charlotte's meaning of home.
