Home

To me, home is the place where I feel safe. Home is the place that I come home to every day. Home is where I smell my Nani’s cooking and my Nana’s chai (tea). Home is where I see my brother and sister, and where we all play and talk together. Home is where I learned to read and write and ride a bike, and where I was taught so many things, like how to boil water, how to use a toaster and so much more. At home I have had countless dinners, with family and friends and neighbours. Home is where I had birthday parties and watched TV with my family. Sometimes my whole family watches a movie or an episode of a TV show together, but sometimes we have certain shows that we watch with certain parents, like how my little brother and my big sister and I watch The Simpsons with my dad and murder mystery shows (like Ludwig) with my mom. To me home isn't just a place. In fact, home isn't really a place at all. To me home is where I feel safe. Home is where my family is. Home is where I learn new skills and do things that I love. Home is where I achieve great things and become the type of person that I want to become. Home is my town, my school, my art class, my grandparents house. Home is where I smell dinner cooking and hear the laundry machine running and my brother making truck sounds and see my sister flipping pages of a book and just totally ignoring the rest of the world, and hear my nanny cleaning pots and pans and smell my grandparents making tea and cooking up delicious food and see the basement that I never like going down into alone for no actual reason, and the living room where there are so many books that it would take a lifetime to read all them, and the room I grew up in that has looked the same for as long as I can remember. Home isn't just drywall and paint and wood and steel, home is wherever I feel safe and free to be myself, and where the people I love and care about are.
