Meaning of Home

To me, a home is more than just walls and a door, more than a stove and a couch, more than a bed and a blanket. It’s an abode where the aroma of love lingers when mom cooks a beautiful dish for dinner. It’s a place where you feel comforted at night. Sometimes, it’s full of anxiety when dad’s favourite football team is playing. Other times its full of joy, when you have friends over for Christmas. It’s where you are able to socialize and comfort yourself. But the meaning of ‘home’ can be different for others. For example, my dog, Hailey sees the meaning of ‘home’ in a totally different way. But I think the only way to really appreciate a home is to feel the way the house was built, to see the way the couch fills the room, to hear the sound of the floor creak when you walk across the room. It’s the taste of love that is baked to perfection in beautiful Christmas cookies, to smell the flowers in the garden. You always have to give love to your home so it can give it back! Sometimes when I feel sad I go over to the couch and my dog Hailey makes me feel better. It also tells me that in my home I will always have someone to comfort me. The meaning of “home” isn’t the things you have, it’s the people you’re with. Sometimes there is something that will comfort you in the times that you’re sad, just like a blanket or in my case my stuffy comforts me in my sleep. Sometimes it’s not a favourite thing, it’s a favourite food, like when you’re dad cooks a delicious meal for dinner. With that said, you and me are both very lucky, some people don’t have as much as us, so be grateful for what you have. That is the difference between a house and a HOME.
