The Meaning of Home

Imagine being alone in a camp, not knowing where you are or what is going on. To me, home is where you never have to feel alone, scared, or unwanted. Home is a place where you are with your family, and you are reminded of all the memories you made together. It is a place where you feel safe and loved. Today I am going to share what home means to me! To me the people you are with are the most important part of home. They are so important because they are always there for you when you’re down and there to celebrate with you when you accomplish something. For me, those people are my family. Without my family some of the most exciting things like Christmas or New year's would be boring. It is because of all this that I will cherish every moment I get with them! If family is important then so are the memories, you make with them. I think memories are that no matter where or what you look at there will always be a story to go with it. Whether it’s a Monopoly board and I’m reminded of the long Monopoly games we would play while our mom would complain that she doesn't like Monopoly, or if it’s the dining table where my dad would tell us all his family history stories. No matter what it is, it is these stories that make everything feel like they belong. My third and final point is that at home I feel safe, but it’s also that I have a place to call home. It’s so important because lots of people don’t have a place to call home or to feel safe. For example, when my dad was only 3 him and his family got kicked out of their home country China. They were forced to refuge to Canada because of this. I cannot even imagine how hard it would have been. It’s when I think about things like this that I feel lucky for things like having a home or a place to feel safe. To me, home is where you never feel scared, unwanted, or alone. But instead, you feel loved, safe, and welcome. I hope that one day everybody has a place to call home!
