An Evening at Home

Drop my backpack by the door, My school things fall to the floor. Snuggle by the fireplace And grab a book from the case. Read history, mysteries galore! Curled up in my favourite spot, Foreign scents drift from a pot. Jumping up I hear a knock, Up I run to turn the lock; In my arms grandma is caught! We set the table plate by plate, Mum’s cuisine gets the highest rate. After dinner we’ll play a game, With eight people, it’s never the same! The fun continues ‘til it’s late. With music we will end the night, My violin is tuned just right. Dad, Lucy, and I play, they sing, Together we make the music ring! To grandma and grandpa we say goodnight. As they drive, we’ll wave goodbye, There in my cozy bed I lie. My weighted blanket covering, My homely dreams still hovering. I’ll sleep in peace 'til morning’s nigh. My home is like a songbird’s nest A place of comfort, warmth and rest. Oh so sweet music fills the air, And I feel cared for when I’m there. With family and a home, I’m blessed. Homes are unique and yet the same, Where we belong, a family name, Somewhere to love, a place to lay, Where the best of memories forever stay.
