Meaning of Home
What does home mean to you? Does it mean four walls with a roof and a picket white fence? For me, home is where I can be myself, be with family, cuddle up by the fire, home cooked meals, to be safe and comfortable. Well did you know not everyone can describe a home, 30,000 people in Canada alone are unhoused, put on the streets. Imagine being unhoused in Canadas crazy whether, it pains my heart to know that so many people suffer daily. So today I will be talking about how important it is to have home, specifically the meaning of home.
The meaning of home is a contest ran by Habitat for humanity to raise money so they can build affordable housing for people in need. It consists of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders from all around Canada who compete in a writing about their version of the meaning of home. Whoever wins gets 30,000 dollars to donate and a prize for them and their class! My name is Malia and I’m a sixth grader competing in the meaning of home contest. I hope you enjoy!
Safety- When you hear the word safety what comes to your mind? Well personally I think home. Not just home being a safe place to sleep, live, etc. But being able to be myself, make mistakes and not be judged. It’s a place where I can be safe in both ways.
Comfort-Being comfortable in a home is a huge thing for me! Don’t get me wrong I love cozying up by the fireplace, living in my sweats, but another way of feeling comfortable is to know your loved. Family is love, so it’s important to have one, not just to feed you, but to love you. Imagine not having someone who loved you, you’d start to fall apart: become depressed.
But sadly, for some Canadians that’s how it is, no home, no food, or no family. So, one day I hope everyone has a home with love, safety, comfort, and hopefully just a little bit of fun!
