The need for affordable housing.
There are many factors that determine, what a home can be.
Not everywhere in the world are people living in a home like me, but to them that is their home.
There are many types of homes around the world, some live in mudbrick homes, boathouses, tents and homes on stilts to name a few.
Sometime homes that you stay in can be temporary. For example, at current there are wars in Ukraine and Syria, causing temporary stays within shelters or even fleeing to another country to find a new home.
There are different factors that can determine what a person’s home is, some of these factors are
· Financial income. According to a report 80.000 plus are homeless within Ontario as of last year. This could be that some live-in shelter or on the street. One of the areas that stood out, was the waiting time for affordable houses an average wait time could be between 5 years to 20 years.
Personal situations for example myself and my family are doing a charity event called “The Coldest Night Walk in Ontario”. This walk is to raise funds for people experiencing hurt violence and abuse, hunger and homeless. I recently read a novel called “No Fixed Address” a story that is about a family losing their home. They move into a camper van and showing their struggles along the way of them trying to find a home, until eventually they are offered an apartment with affordable rent.
· Environmental issues recently there have been fires in the USA, leaving many homeless or living in shelters or other accommodations.
This shows the importance of building new homes to accommodate for those who need. It is one of the basic hierarchy of needs, individuals need a place to live.
