Home Is Where the Heart Is

Home Is Where the Heart Is By Hazel Shipman I remember walking into my warm, cozy home after a day that made me feel miserable, deserted, and alone. I stepped through the doorway to escape the cold, and then I took off my coat and my boots. When I looked up, I saw the wooden picture frame my mother had hung on the wall. Inside the frame was a piece of paper that held the words, “home is where the heart is.” I trudged into my living room to find my mother, my father, and my sister waiting for me. They all had smiles on their faces, and soft, joyful personalities. They settled me down, talked to me, and taught me something I will never forget. They told me that no matter what, your home will always be a safe place where you are loved, understood, and supported. Even when you feel as if all hope is lost, your home will be there, full of the people you love. Your home will pick you back up after you fall and will be there to celebrate your victories. My caring family told me that home is where the heart is. Someday, many years from now, my own children will come home at the end of a long, exhausting day and see that very sign that hung in my home all those years ago. I will teach them the things my family taught me, that your home is always full of people who love you and are there for you. I will share the phrase with them that I learnt as a child, that helped me grow and filled me with joy. I will tell them these cherished words, that home is where the heart is.
