Home is Not Just a House

A house is not a home they are different. A house could be a structure, walls a chair a table. But a home is so much more. My home is waking up to the sound of some funny Spanish song from my dad’s childhood that he put on the speaker. Its eating breakfast and hearing mom walk through the door coming back from the gym. Its going downstairs and watching TV like Outer Banks on the big comfortable couch. Then going to Laneway with mum to get a cold or hot drink. Home is coming back from the coffee shop and texting a friend. Its going over to the friend’s house and walking downtown, then going to Loves ice cream. This is home to me. Home is sitting around at my friend’s house and making stag chili. Its just hanging around for hours with those friends than going home for dinner and hearing the warm laughter as I eat the homecooked meal mum made. That is home. It is watching a funny movie with your parents’ sister and dog. That is home. It is mom and dad driving me to camp with Lily in the middle of summer, that is home. What I’m saying is home doesn’t have to be a house it can be an activity, people, a place. Home is something everyone should have and that is possible with Habitat for Humanity!
