Meaning of Home to Me

A home is a safe and comfortable place, filled with warmth and hope and light. A home has the smell of my favourite dishes and the smell of cologne. It is also a place where I can sleep and rest. A home has siblings or friends laughing and playing together, a home is also filled with memories, the smell of beans on a Friday evening. I remember when NEPA would take the light away from my old home in Nigeria. At times, we would be out of electricity for the whole week. Me, my mom, and my mom’s sister would sit and chit-chat which made me happy all the time. When I was at home, I would go to the kitchen and climb the cabinet to eat junk food and I would also take a piece of chicken from the pot. When my friends come over, we would give ourselves the hardest words to spell, one of the words is: Antiminipitifitivocationalitism. My mom would also make my favourite dishes like bread and stew, bread and egg, Moi Moi and Garri, and Ewedu. And these memories will always stay dear to me and I will never forget these memories. In Fact, I will cherish them forever. A home doesn’t have to have electronics, it is mostly filled with happiness and joy, no matter how big, no matter how small. Home is where I cherish it all. Home is where I play. Home is where I lay. Home is where I stay. I learned to walk and I learned to run, I learned to sing and I learned to have fun so with my home, I am home.
