Lucy's Discovery
One morning, Lucy, a black border-collie dog, stepped outside her home, after a hearty meal that her master made especially for her. She was spoiled by her family with a comfortable bed and delicious meals each morning. Walking around lazily; thinking of what to do next, Lucy bumped into a tree. She heard a loud tweet and looked up.
A baby bird shouted from her nest “Watch out! You almost knocked down my home”!
“That’s your home?” Lucy asked, confused.
The baby bird nodded.
“But where are your pillows and bed, a-and your bowl of food?” Lucy asked.
“A home isn’t a place where you only sleep and eat!” the bird replied. “This is my home where mom and dad love me and help me grow. I can almost fly now and I can’t wait to join them in their adventures!”.
Thinking about her conversation, Lucy walked ahead and reached a brook where she decided to drink water. As she lapped up water, she noticed a fish in the stream. Lucy wondered if this was its home. She stopped drinking and asked the fish “Is this your home?”
“Yes. This is my home, a place where I belong and be myself”.
Lucy thanked the fish and started walking home. On her way, she decided to dig up her master's garden. As the hole got bigger, Lucy noticed a worm wriggling out of the dirt.
“Don’t dig up my home!” the worm shouted.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t know this was your home!” Lucy replied.
“This is my home where I keep warm and safe!”
Lucy returned home and thought of all she had heard. She looked at her family and saw that this was where she belonged, felt safe and loved.
