I Won’t Leave my HOME
This is a story about a young girl named Zoey and her quest to try to convince her parents not to move.
“We have to tell her at some point Joan,” Zoey heard her dads deep voice from outside the door then she heard her moms delicate voice filled with sadness as she responded
“I know I know” but she’ll be crushed she was just starting to settle in”
“I know Joan but we promised her that we’d tell her,” with those words Zoey’s heart filled with dread. She ran to her room with her pictures of family and friends. She began to cry into her soft pale pink pillow as she crawled under her matching duvet. Then she quickly grabbed a book as her mother poked her head into her room asking
“Are you okay honey? I thought I heard crying,” Zoey just nodded, not looking up at the woman who had betrayed her, turning away from her laying on her side.
A little while later Zoey’s dad called her down for supper saying that he had big news and had cooked her favourite meal (tacos) Zoey pulled herself out of bed and slouched as she walked downstairs faking being fine was easy with the smell of her dads home made recipe of delicious tacos.
Her mom looked at her dad with a look that said ‘you need to say it now’
He gave her the exact same look in response Zoey noticed this look and was about to say something when her mom started talking
“Look Zoey we have something we need to tell you-” she inhaled sharply as she paused “we, we,” she inhaled again “we’re mo–,”
“We’re moving!” her dad burst out ignoring the look from Joan “I got an offer for a new job and I took it I know we promised and I’m sorry but you’ll like Nova Scotia it's really nice and it’s by the ocean!” he said as if he was just trying to get it out. Zoey was shocked she assumed she was just moving out of her home to a house a house with no memories a house without comfortable furniture and little imperfections like the handle doesn't turn or that one step that creaks as your sneaking upstairs when your supposed to be in bed then Zoey realized something it didn’t matter where they were it was her home that mattered this wasn’t just a house it was a home. With heat in winter, A/C in summer with family and friends in the neighborhood comfy chairs and other furniture, not just a building with four walls and a roof over your head. But a home won’t be forgotten, a house will but sometimes it’s okay to make a new home, it's okay to start fresh on a blank canvas, sometimes that's all you need. Zoey could make a new home but she would never forget her old one.
