Sofia’s Beautiful, Spacious House
In a beautiful, spacious house, lived a 9-year-old girl, with her mother and father. Sofia had opened her big, cerulean blue eyes. She was staring into the depths of the pearly white ceiling. She quietly sighed to herself. She pulled herself up and observed her room. It never got old, she still observed the room the same way she did when she had first moved in 7 years ago. But she hadn’t remembered it, after all, she had only been 2 years old. She had gotten dressed and headed down her house stairs. After the first flight of stairs, she stopped dead. She had never had this feeling before. Sure, Sofia was that type of kid who burst into deep conversation about something she had just got struck with. But this wasn’t a normal idea, it was special. Why do we need houses? It was a pretty random thought, but why houses? It could’ve been tents, or cabins, or cottages, or maybe even cars. Sofia also thought, Well, I guess houses have better shelter and storage than tents, cabins, cottages and cars. Yeah…That makes sense…
The next morning, she felt as if she had answered her own question wrong. At breakfast she had asked her parents the same question. Her mother smiled and explained:
“It’s not like that. It doesn’t matter where you’re living, “home” is often mistaken for “house”. A house is a place where you can settle down and live, but home is a place where you feel safe, loved, comfortable, cozy, and warm. Not warm like temperature, but the warmth inside our hearts.”
Her father also smiled and added:
“Home is kind of like a feeling of happiness and lovingness inside of your soul. As long as you get that feeling, you feel right at home, Sofia.”
