My home, my haven
The storms. Hail. Snow. I watch all this happen safely in my cozy home. Each moment of every day, my home is my haven. It’s where I seek refuge from hatred, it's the hope in a desert of hopelessness. It’s my light in the darkness.
When I move, my home doesn’t move. It’s not a specific location or just four walls and a roof. It’s not just a building or 100 kilometres of land. It’s where I feel safe and accepted. It is where it’s my right to be no one but myself. Here, I receive love from all my neighbours in my home.
My home is where I’ve grown up for the past eleven years. Where I’ve built friendships and found role models. It’s the only place I’ve known for my whole life. It’s the place where I’ve inspired neighbours and friends.
My home is a land of freedom, peace, equity and diversity. It’s a place known for its kindness, and where I am accepted for who I truly am. I am so proud to be a Canadian and live in my home. Over the years, I have grown to adore my home and I’ve become aware of those less fortunate, who don’t have one. I hope that with habitat for humanity, everyone can have a home, because everyone deserves one.
