What home means to me
Home. A word that means so much to so many people. Without question a home is a roof over my head and a bed to sleep in but what’s the real meaning of home?
Home for me is with my family, the love that’s in the air and the feeling of safety. It’s knowing that I can come back to my home and everything will be okay. I am very fortunate to have a safe home, and to have the opportunity to call many places home. The feeling of the first puck drop of the game, and the cheers when the winning goal is scored, that feels like home to me. At my grandma's house, baking her famous oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, that feels like home to me. With my family, playing board games and sharing memories, that feels like home to me.
Many people in our country don’t know where they’re going to lay their head at night, or even where their next meal is coming from. Many people have to move around a lot, for me stability is a key role of having a home. I know that at the end of the day, if I'm sick, injured or in danger, I can always come back to my home. Home is a place where others can feel welcome too, and they know that our home is a safe place for all.
I am so incredibly lucky to have a home that I can come back to each and every day. Not many people are as fortunate as me, so I hope with the help of the Habitat for Humanity, we can make many people in Canada feel just as lucky as me. The opportunity to help others in my community, that feels like home to me.
