What home means to me
The word home means something different to everyone. Home is a complicated word because for some people home is a house with your family. Other people might think that home is somewhere where you feel safe or comfortable living. Some other people think that home is a place where your friends and family live
When I ask someone to draw a house they usually will draw a mom, a dad and two kids. That is not how most homes are. Home is so much more than just bricks and walls. Something that some people don't get is that there are so many different types of homes. Home is kind of like a feeling because to feel at home you have to feel safe, comfortable and happy. You don't have to be where you live to feel at home. You can feel at home at your friends house or even at school you can feel at home at multiple places.
My home is at my house with my mom, my step dad, my older brother, my younger brother. Even though my house is what you would call an average home it doesn't mean that all homes are the same. My house is a duplex with neighbors who are really nice. There is a 4 year old and an 8 year old and their parents. I am 11 and my older brother is 13 and my younger brother is 8. This is my home but everyone is not as lucky as me. Some people don't even have a home.
You can feel at home in more than one place. I also feel at home in school. I have two home room teachers that act just like my mom. They always make me do extra work and make me help them clean up and more motherly activities. I don't care if most kids don’t like school. I feel safe and at home there. There are so many places that people can feel at home. I feel at home in like five different places.
If you don't have a safe place to stay you can really damage your health. In Canada, help is always available for people when they need it. If you need a place to stay because you are not safe at home, one place you can check out is this link to National Safe Place. If you have any problems with where you live, talk about it! You don't have to deal with that all by yourself. There is always someone to talk to if that is your friend or your teacher or your guidance counselor. Hope this helps. Always remember you're not alone.
