Finding Home

Lisa was only 4 years old, and all she knew of a home was her foster care . Lisa was given up as a baby her mom and dad were not able to give her the care she needed. Every month Lisa would lose another friend, because they would go to their forever home and Lisa would always stay behind, never getting her forever home. Each day she started to give up hope that someone would come in and want to take her home. Madison and Mike wanted a child of their own but weren't able to have one, so they decided to adopt a child. On October 15th 1993 Madison and Mike went to the foster care home to meet all the children. October 15th wasn't a good day for Lisa, she was very sad that day, she was always thinking to herself “why am I not good enough? Why doesn't anyone want me to come to their home?” Poor Lisa just couldn't understand why. That day Madison and Mike came into the foster home, Lisa watched them come in, but she didn't even bother to go speak to them because she knew they didn't want her and that she would be disappointed. Madison noticed a young pretty girl sitting alone so she went over to say hi. Mike also came over. They sat and chatted for a bit with Lisa. That day Mike and Madison fell in love with Lisa and that day Lisa was adopted. Lisa was very nervous when driving to their house, but she was also very happy. When she arrived at the house they showed Lisa her room, the walls were plain white and the only thing in the room was a bed and a dresser. Lisa was still very happy she was going to have a family. The next day when Lisa woke up she could smell bacon. At her foster home she didn't get many treats, and bacon was a treat. When Lisa walked downstairs she saw the table full of different breakfast foods, Pancakes, bacon, fruit, toast and orange juice. Madison told Lisa that they were going to head out to the stores today to get something for her room. Mike then asked Lisa what her favorite color was. Lisa loved purple. They finished up breakfast, and Lisa and Madison headed to the stores. Madison and Lisa went to so many different stores, they got new books, new clothing, Once they arrived home, Mike was upstairs in Lisa's room, they went up to see him. Mike rushed out of the room and shut the door behind him, he told Lisa to close her eyes, when she walked into her room the walls were painted purple with butterflies and flowers all over the room. Lisa started crying; she was so happy she has never had a bedroom of her own. That night Madison, Mike and Lisa decorated her room, then Madison got the bath ready for Lisa. After her bath the three of them went to the couch and watched a movie with popcorn for a snack. When the movie was playing Lisa looked at Madison and Mike, she thought to herself, this is what a home feels like. Fifteen years later, Lisa was in college. She was in the library reading when she came across a beautiful quote about home. Elle Rodriquez once said “ The light is what guides you home, the warmth is what keeps you there”. Lisa's home was with Madison and Mike, who she now calls mom and dad.
