A Home Unique to Everyone
Home, a word with four letters,
So simple,
But it is more than a simple word.
It has meaning,
Unique to everyone.
People might think home is a building,
Perhaps an apartment or mansion.
Maybe a boathouse,
Or a petit snug cabin.
Or home is possibly a place for protection,
From blizzards,
To school bullies.
Mentally and physically.
Others might think of home as a concept,
A feeling of assurance or security.
Not an object or a place,
But a thought, an idea,
Of feeling a certain way.
Or maybe you think of both,
Both being your meaning of home,
Balancing each other out.
A house and a feeling
Both fulfilling,
Home.
Home could also be a safehouse,
A place where you can be yourself,
Not be judged or made fun of.
Loved for who you are.
Your true self.
When I was young,
Just starting kindergarten,
My home was a playground,
To host birthday parties and playdates,
When I moved on to elementary school,
Home was split into two.
Half with my friends at school,
And half with my family at my house.
When I lived in lockdown,
Home had many more meanings,
A school for learning,
A house for living,
A place for playing.
When I am older I hope that my home is nice,
Big enough to hold relatives,
But also having a cozy feeling,
Of safety and protection.
This is what home means to me.
And possibly you.
