The difference between a house and a home

Winter Peddle A house is not a home until you make it one many people say, I have a strong belief in that. A house is a roof over your head, a shelter even. But a home, a home is a place of love, care, and sometimes sadness. In my home with my personal experiences, my home(s) are a place where I feel welcome, safe and I feel love all around me. My parents care about me. I also have a lovely grandmother who loves me dearly, her house was my second home. And I have fantastic grandparents who always accept and love me. A home is where you make it, a house is a structure, i’d like to say though, having a roof over your head is not a bad thing. It’s just that in my eyes family comes first. I can’t imagine what it would be like without my family. Up until 2020 me and my parents all lived in the same house. We had it made, except I didn’t realize that my parents were planning a breakup for about three years prior. My parents weren't engaged though so that made that easier. It was a lot for me though, I was in third grade when they split. It was during the pandemic so I couldn't see my dad for two weeks, and that was pretty hard for me. Little third grade me was carrying the weight on my shoulders of making sure my mother was okay mentally, she started taking depression medication, that was when we started to drift apart even though i’d always see her, it didn’t feel like a home anymore, it just felt like a place for me to stay without getting cold. But now me and my mom are a team. My dad got his new place so I get a week with him and a week with mom. Even though we’re not in the same house, we're still home to each other. My home is a happy home, and I hope it stays that way. -From: Winter
