What is home?
Not everyone has a home. That’s why mine means a lot to me. Home is a small world with BIG meaning. And more importantly, a home is not always four walls and a roof.
With one syllable, and four letters, home is not a long word, but it has a large meaning. Home has a definition that not all can define. For each and every human being, home has a different meaning. But for me, home is full of happiness, joy, fun, and a million more, but above all, home is where I feel safe.
If a house feels unsafe, it is just a mere building. Only with the condition that it is a safe, and joyful place, is it a home. What makes up a home is the neighbours, school, friends, family, and, in some cases, the house. Forever I will grow and change, but always, the memories of my home will be warm and joyful.
Everyone deserves a home. Not just those who can afford one, because shelter is a basic human right. But did you know that more than 235,000 people in Canada experience homelessness in any given year? That is almost as much as the population of Kitchener, Ontario!
I am very lucky that I have a home. It is very hard to imagine being homeless, so let's all work together. Each and every one of us will become one. We will help each other by building nice, secure homes for those who can’t afford one. Only if we combine efforts, can we build safer, and happier homes, for a better tomorrow.
