New Home
Moving here was hard
Tears were shed
My family and I didn’t know what waited ahead
My soul was lost
Heart shattered
Unknown voices chatter
New school, new shelter
Trembling in the cold I shudder
Standing in the playground
Frowning down to the ground
Wondering what to do
Far in the distance dozens of people play and laugh
Suddenly I come across a group of friends
Shaking I ask them if I can be one of them
Their cheerful soul, loving hearts
Welcome me in with warm hugs
My heart glows
Joyous soul recovers
Rotten gloom hovers away
As sunshine returns to stay
Entering my house
My parents give me a hug
Loving sister runs to me and says
“Finally your back, dark clouds have seemed to leave!”
This makes me realize
Family and love is all I need
At last I understand home and house are different
For me home is where I am loved and appreciated
Protected and safe from the bitter winter, blazing summer including all seasons within
House is a lonely piece of structure where mischievous rats await
I don’t want a house, I want a home
Were I am with the ones I love
Shielded from the unpleasant side of world and introduced to the friendly
Appreciating the ones who defend me
Habitat For Humanity I thank you
Those in need are now protected
And I hope your caring heart is rewarded
