The Feelings and Meaning of Home

Some people think that home means a house, A building with family and maybe a mouse. Others think home’s a place full of feelings, It doesn’t need roofs, walls or a ceiling. That’s sort of what home means to me, But a little different, you’ll see! I think home makes people feel things beyond compare, I experience happiness, safeness, freeness and that others care. I also feel that other people love me, That in me, they believe. Their care for me, Is as large as care can be. But, I don’t think that family needs to be, Connected by blood or in a family tree. It doesn't need to have a mom, dad, sister or brother, I think family can just be with one another! Family’s whoever you love for and care, That could be friends, that’s not rare! There are lots of families you could be a part of, Like school, friends, neighbors, as long as there is love. I’m also a family with my five best friends, We’ll always feel like family to the end. No matter how far away or close we are, In our hearts we are never far. As a group we’re as happy as the sun, We’re always trying to have fun! So, when I’m with my friends, I feel like I’m home, And that’s what I’ve tried to say with this part of the poem. But, it’s not just the special people that make me feel that way, Most of the time, feelings come into play. Love is one that’s really important to me, Without love, it feels a lot less like family. Love is that feeling that makes you know others care, That you’re special, unique and way more than rare! Love comes from deep down in the heart, When you give love, it’s only the start. Love moves on like a chain, From one person to another, let me explain. When you give it someone, they tend to share, Giving it on and on so everyone cares. It spreads on and on to everyone, And making the love a ton! Love is an affection you can show to others, By being nice to those sometimes annoying brothers. Or helping someone elderly cross the street, Think of it for them, that would be a nice treat! That’ll show them how much love you share, And make them know that you care. That’s only a couple ways to show the love, There’s so many more, look up and above! I understand that’s what you’re making people feel, And I agree that it's important everyone knows that love’s real. Houses are getting to work and building, Like them, everyone should be willing. Houses share feelings, And give others healing. They build themselves up, Like we are building up those who are rough. So everyone has a safe spot and knows, The feeling of having a home.
