The Meaning of Home

Put yourself in the shoes of a homeless person. Walk down a quiet street at night. Streetlamps shine a dim light over the sleepy neighborhood You're walking by. Inside, people are getting ready for bed after a nice, hot meal. Do they think of the house they’re living in as home? Or are they just as homeless as you? Curling into a tight ball for warmth, you drift off into a soft dream where you can finally feel safe. You dream that you’re safe and sound in a home of your own. You lie down on a soft, dry bed and just before you can relax, you’re woken up by the sound of cars rushing by. You continue your search for a place to call home. You wonder to yourself, “Will I ever be safe?”. “Will I ever find a home?”. You don’t know if you will, but at the same time, you don’t know that you won’t. So, on you look for somewhere where you can be yourself. Where you can finally end your search for a home. That’s what I think the meaning of home is.
