A Home, Not a House!
Home isn’t just a place for shelter, home is somewhere you can feel safe and happy - it's like your “base”. You have family, which comes first, then you have the things that help you belong. Like when my grandma was at her nursing home, we would bring and share family photos and Swiss Chalet (her favourite!) and the staff there helped make her feel happy and they were very caring right up until she died last summer. Between the amazing staff and our family, we made that nursing home into her home! We are also sponsoring a girl who lives in Mali, which is a country in Africa. Her name is Alimata and she doesn’t have a beautiful house, at least by our standards, but when we get smiling pictures of her and read about the things she is doing and fun she is having with her friends, we know that she loves her home. Sometimes we complain about stupid things when we should really be grateful that we have roofs over our heads and that we have family and friends to make our houses into our homes. We need to respect the things we have and especially the people living in our “base”, while we still have them! Home is special to me because the people I love are all there, except grandma who is in heaven.
