Lime

Hi, my name is Lime and l am a budgie. One day my best friend Avocado and l were quietly sitting on a perch in our cage. We had been living at PetSmart for a year. The door creaked open. A man came in. I flapped my wings in excitement. It meant that Avocado and l were going to be adopted! But when l looked where Avocado was last sitting, she was gone. Does that mean that Avocado got adopted and l did not?! A week later, l was still in the pet store. My friend was long gone. Suddenly the door opened, a woman and a girl walked in. The girl had a smile as bright as the sun. I heard a click as my cage opened. Before l could even blink a net trapped me and put me in a strange looking box. I was nervous but also excited. The box flung open. l flew into a large cage. The minute l was in, l felt warm and cozy unlike the pet store. l also felt loved. I was not just in a building anymore, l was HOME. Finally, a home of my own. I was excited and overwhelmed! I hope that someday everybody will have a house and a place to call home.
