“Home…is not just the place where you happen to be born. It’s the place where you become yourself.”- Pico Iyer.
Home to me can be captured in two words: family and heart. Family because they are a group of people who always support me and heart because home is where my heart is the most comfortable.
My family is always supporting me even when I’ve done something wrong. They teach me to be honest, they help me when I’m having trouble, they keep me safe, and they give me a strong foundation to build my life. My family gives me a framework of happiness by providing me with hope when I am lacking confidence. My family supports me and protects my dreams like the roof of a building.
The best word to describe me is lively. At home, I feel the most comfortable and safe expressing this part of my personality. I can hold very animated conversations and turn dull conversations into very interesting ones. I get excited easily and people get caught up in my enthusiasm. When I’m at home my heart feels free and there are no limits to what I can achieve.
There are some unfortunate people who don’t have the same kind of home as me. Their homes may be empty, and dark, their homes may not have as strong a foundation as mine. I can imagine they have a weak framework and feelings of hopelessness and it is difficult for them to find comfort.
In the end, I feel extremely lucky to have a home that is so meaningful to me, a place where I can truly become myself.
