Meaning of Home
You might think that home is just a building, but it's not just a structure on a street. Home is the people you live with, the memories you make with them and being safe and happy about who you are.
Family is what makes me feel at home.. Family is my mom and I baking cake for my dad's birthday. Family is my dad and I going around the city having tons of laughs, and going to the skate park. Family is my brother and I running around the house, having pillow fights and relaxing on the comfy couch while reading or watching TV. Family is my dog running outside having a blast with his treats. Family is home.
Memories make home. Memories are feelings too like the happiness I felt when I won my first soccer game or went canoeing for the first time. They are the warmth that I feel when my brother and I cuddle up in a blanket while I read a story as he falls asleep. They are the curiosity I feel when I build legos as high as an elephant or watch fish as they swim through the stream. Memories make home with my memories. I will always feel home.
Safety is also home, having a roof over your head, having something always protecting you and not feeling trapped, that is home. Safety is when you are being who you are and being proud of it. That is what home and being safe means to me.
I am grateful for my home and I hope the people at Habitat for Humanity will get the same amount of fun and safety in their own home. Home is not a big house or furniture, it is a feeling deep inside.
