The Meaning of Home
Home. Wake up. Go to school. Come back. Eat dinner and repeat. I don't know about you but this is very relevant to my boring day at my house. If you think about it however, Home and house are two very different words. A house is just a building that can be a home.
While the word home… Huh. Well there isn't an exact definition for home is there? So I can still type an essay, here are three things I think a home stands for.
First of all, one of the most important things a home should include is people who love and care for you.
Whatever your family looks like, you deserve to have a loving family and a beautiful home to go with it. I know my family cares for me, it's really important for the people who you're living with to at least respect you. I don't think anyone likes it when your family calls you hurtful things at your home where it should be your safe retreat from the world. Whether it's your bedroom, basement, attic or even bathroom, you shouldn't have to be scared to leave that room just because you're afraid of what a hateful person will say or do to you. Everyone deserves a person who cares, supports and loves you, which leads me to my next point.
Your special home, if it's in the city, suburbs or countryside, It should be your safe haven where you can care for yourself.
This is a major quality that I find important to me and I think some other people can agree. I love it when I can just go home and just flop on the couch and either write, read or draw ( and sometimes sadly do math homework). I also like that my parents and older siblings can give me time alone in my bedroom to do those things that I listed. Like I said in my first paragraph, everyone deserves someone who cares about you, but at the same time, they can give you a safe private place where you can do a hobby or simply take care of yourself.
My last meaning of home is eight words. A place where you make memories and traditions.
Out of all my reasons, this one is my favorite. If you think about it, your very first memories are made at your home. Your first meal, words, steps. They're all commonly made at your home sweet home.
Memories are such important things, yet we often take them for granted. A home cooked meal that your guardian made, that's a memory. Your first birthday, guess what it is? A beautiful memory! Where do most of them take place? Home.
I love it when my dad makes pancakes for us every Sunday. They're SO yummy. Oh right, that reminds me. A home is where you also make traditions. To me, traditions and memories are quite similar. It's where you can celebrate anything really. Whether it's something simple like a family board game night or something huge like a giant family reunion, they can all be unique traditions.
Now that I think about it. Home. They're all so wondrous and all of them have distinctive appearances. Just like people. So, if you ever start criticizing your home about its ugly wallpaper or that door that always creaks, remember. A home is where your family, safety, relaxation, hobbies, memories and traditions live and thrive.
Thank you and stay fresh!
