The Meaning of Home

“A house is made of walls and beams; a home is made of love and dreams.”. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said. I personally agree with this quote that states that a house and a home are not the same thing. One could be in their own house and still not feel at home, while when they are at a place that is not their house, they still feel at home. This is because home is where you feel like you belong, where you’re surrounded by people who you love and care about. Take Harry Potter for example. He lives with his horrible aunt and uncle and oversized lump of a cousin at number 4 Privet Drive, but he still doesn’t feel at home because they treat him like a dead rat that showed up on their doorstep. Which he did (show up on their doorstep, but not as a dead rat). But, when Harry was at Hogwarts, he felt as if he was at home because he felt loved there. The point is, home is where you feel loved and cared about. It’s a place where you feel bonded. At home, you feel connected, and you’re with your friends and/or family. A home doesn’t necessarily have to be a house; It could be a friend's house, a shop, or even a park! For me, my home is my house, because my family lives there with me. Home is something precious that I’m in everyday. Home is one of the things that mean the most to me. My home is a house but I know it’s not the same for everyone. This is because some people don’t have a house. I’m grateful for my home because I at least have a place to call home.
