Home
What is home? Home is not a house made of bricks or a tent made of canvas. Home is more than a building or a dwelling. Home isn’t just a place where we keep our stuff or rest our heads.
Home looks different to everyone. Some people live alone, some live with their parents or a parent, some live with grandparents or multiple generations together, some live with a pet; while others may live with a close friend.
Home is a safe place where we feel loved, secure and special. Home is a warm hug. Home is where we begin and end our days; with those who love and care for us. Home is where we can be our true selves without fear of judgement or being laughed at. Home is where you can fall and your family helps build you back up. Home is where we laugh and cry. Home is where we celebrate the joys and milestones of life. Home is also where we comfort each other during sad times; like when your dog dies or someone is hurt. Home is where we can share our hopes and dreams with those we trust. Home is where memories are made.
Home is where we learn and grow. We may move from home to travel or go to school or start a new job but, we the door is always open to go back home. Home is filled with memories, sounds and smells. Thoughts of home make us feel happy or change our mood; when we are having a bad day. Thoughts of home can bring us calm before a test. Smells of home (like baking) when visiting somewhere new can make us feel less nervous. A picture of home can make us feel safe when we are somewhere new.
Home may be a large multi room house, a small apartment in a tall building or a tent in a campground. Filling a home with stuff like furniture, toys and TVs isn’t important. Filling a home with shared memories, laughter, fun times, security and love is more important. We should never judge where someone lives or if it looks different than our home. Home is a special place because it is yours and unique to your family.
My home is shared with my Parents and two younger brothers. We are blessed to have a home where we share food, laugh, play games and sleep.
I am grateful for my home, the memories we make and the love we share.
Home is an amazing place!
