My New Home, The First Year
The old house in the lovely neighborhood remained empty for quite some time,
until it was filled with a family of five.
The squirrels leaped from branch to branch, birds sang in the trees,
as the father jumped out of the van, holding the keys.
As the rest of the family hopped out of the van,
their plans for their new house began.
“Should we add a new counter?” “Should we move this wall?”
So many ideas, and we could do it all.
Summer passed as the kids swam around in the lake, playing
with water guns, and eating birthday cake.
The bright and sunny season of summer passed to a brisk and colorful fall,
where the family that moved in took family walks, big and small.
The pretty and colorful autumn leaves start to wither away, but soon they will come back and grow,
for now they are coated into a soft white blanket of snow.
The house was heated with the help of the fireplace,
All cozy, the family sipped hot chocolate in the living room with grace.
The cold and relaxation winter did bring,
It was finally time to move on to a rainy and cloudy spring.
The kids laughed and played throughout the rainy days,
splashing in the puddles all along the driveway.
Our first four seasons brought happiness and the most beautiful of memories,
Our home is where our family stands together, where we care for each other, where we love one another.
I give my thanks to Habitat For Humanity for letting me enter this competition,
for showing that you care about those without a home, making it your mission.
