If I Had a Home
I don't have a house, I don't have a home
I only have a place where wild things roam
All day and all night, I put up a fight
Just to find a place, where the world feels all right
I would give anything to feel, like I don’t have to keel
And hide far away, from all the faces that say
This sidewalk or street, is only for walking feet
So get up and walk, or stay here and don’t talk
I never feel safe, not when I’m out here
So I fear and I fear, and my eyes form a tear
Sometimes I wonder, what it’s like to have a mother
One who cares and shares some of her tea
Or a father who gives me some simple advice
Boy, that would be really nice
So every night, as the cars slow
And the people who normally rush don’t show
I wish on the first star in the sky
That someone will show me some kindness, know why?
‘cause if they did, it would raise a kid
Just like me, to a sanctuary
Maybe some take a home for granted
But not me, ‘cause my walls are slanted
If I had had a home
I would lay at night in a bed with a blanket
And I wouldn't ever have to use a jacket
I would feel warm and safe
With a smile on my face
I would be happy not scrappy
And much much more yappy
It would be way more relieving
To know I was receiving
A dinner each night
Without maggots or mites
So please, next time that you see me
Hook me up with Habitat for Humanity
For they will hear and grant my pleads
With a house that fits all my needs.
