What is Home?

What is Home? By: Julianna Dyck Home is a shelter. A place of warmth in the winter. A safe refuge to sleep at night. It is a place to eat and shower. A shelter to go to during rain, snow, heat, and cold. Home is a place of love. It’s a place to share laughter as well as hard times. It’s a place where you are loved and cared for. A place filled with people you can trust. A place to bring people you care about to help them. Home is a place to learn and to grow. A place where you can run around and have fun playing with friends and pets. It is a place for creativity and imagination where you can be you. A place to make mistakes and to grow from those mistakes. A home is where people who love you share jokes and teach you stuff. Home is a secure refuge. A place where no one can hurt you. A place to recover. It will always be there in the good and bad times. A place that has a safe outdoor area to play. A safe refuge to bring friends to hang out with. Home is a place to build memories. It is a place to share love, joy, and laughter. A place to celebrate holidays and special occasions. It doesn’t matter how old you get; you can always look back at the memories that happened in your home growing up. A place to come back to Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote, “Home is the nicest word there is.” Even though there are many beautiful places that we can travel to in this world, there is no place like home.
