What does Home mean to me?
To me, home means a lot of different things. It is a memory, and a place. It is the place where I took my first step, said my first word, and had my first fall. It is where family game night lives, or where movie night sleeps. Home is all that and so much more. All I know for sure is home is something you can never replace.
One thing I have to say is that my house is only part of my home. But there is so much more to it. I will start with my memories. Birthdays, anniversaries, achievements, or weddings ( I’ve only been to one wedding). They are all so much fun. I love having Barbecues in summer, or going out to celebrate my sister getting her black belt, but sometimes just sitting around playing board games is the best. If you asked me to pick my favourite memory, I would find it just about impossible to do, because it could be when my family and I went to St. Thomas and drank straight from a coconut, or when we went on a disney cruise right before COVID 19 happened. Maybe even when we all watch a movie together and eat popcorn. I love all those memories and I can’t choose just one. But my favorite memories are not just with my family, but also with my friends, when I went to the school fair with my best friend and won so much candy. It was a lot of fun. My memories are my home.
My family is the best part of my home. I love family game and movie nights. I love game nights even when I lose. My favourite game to play with my family is Monopoly but my mom and sisters do not like it, so we usually play Charades. Movie night is so much fun too! I like when my family puts the movies we all want to watch in a hat and my brother picks one out. I love how every night, my family and I always eat dinner together and share what happened that day. Sometimes my siblings annoy me but they (almost) always apologize. I love going on trips with my family. I always have so much fun! In Mexico, I loved swimming with my family, or going to the beach with my family. I love baking with my mom, or gardening with my dad, or playing with my brother, or watching t.v with my sisters.
There is more to my family than just trips and board games, there are celebrations that make me feel at home. My favorite celebration is Eid al Fitr, it is when I celebrate how I fasted for a whole month! It is so much fun because I spend the day visiting people. In the morning I go to my grandma and grandpa’s house and some of my cousins come too, and we all eat breakfast together. Then at night time we go to my other grandma and grandpa’s house and all my cousins come over, and we all eat dinner together and play games. I love Eid al Fitr!
Home to me is not just bricks and walls, it is where size does not matter, small or tall. It is more than where our family eats, it is where we feel loved, safe and at peace. My home is special, not because of how it looks on the outside, but it is the people, memories, and celebrations on the inside. I love my home.
