My Place, My Home

I bet a lot of kids believe the word home means a house, building, or dwelling. I used to. But that’s not what I believe now. Home is any place where you feel comfortable and happy with your family and friends. My parents work really hard to make our house a good home. It is a safe space where we are goofy and laugh, play games, read together, have adventures and learn new things. I feel my best self when I’m at home with my family. My home fits me and I fit my home but that doesn’t mean it is perfect. Perfect homes only exist in storybooks and movies. A home has ups and downs, not everyone gets along all the time and does everything right. My home is where I can make mistakes and everyone still loves me and I love them. I learn to be kind, accept differences, forgive and grow. In my home we have celebrations big and small, there is nothing we can’t do when everyone helps out, even a little. We support and encourage one another. Home is where you learn to ride a bike and you have the courage to do amazing things, even if you feel nervous. A home is a place where you can feel your feelings and be okay about yourself and feel like you don't have to hide anything about yourself. Home means love, care, and respect. You do not have to be in a house or a shelter to be in a home.
