Great Home
Did you know that there are more than 235,000 homeless people in Canada each year? I’m happy there is an organization that helps homeless people by building homes for people, called Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity also has Habitat ReStores that raise money to help build shelters. I’m lucky because I'm not homeless.
The meaning of home to me is family. My family includes my Dad, my Mom, my sister, Karima, and my pets, Gavin my dog, and Zephyr my cat. Gavin is my rescue dog that we got when I lived in San Francisco. He is an Italian greyhound mixed with a chihuahua! Zephyr is an Egyptian Mau that we got when I lived in Vancouver. Karima and I don't live together but we still call each other every week and play video games together online. Sometimes my dad joins us.
While family means home to me, so does love. Love to me means comfort and joy. For example, when I'm upset, Gavin comes to comfort me. It makes me feel loved. When my dad plays with me I feel joy and love.
By helping people in need, we share our love and show that we care about them. I’m grateful for all the love in my family. By learning more about Habitat For Humanity we can find out about helping people who are less fortunate than us. Writing this essay made me wonder how we as a class can work together to help Habitat For Humanity and homeless people.
