My Story Of Finding Home
In India, I had created a home, a comfort zone where I felt like I belonged, but one thing I knew is that I won’t remain there forever. Everything changed after I moved to Canada. I didn’t know where I belonged, India or Canada. I had to walk and talk with unfamiliar strangers. When I started kindergarten in Canada, I felt lonely, I didn’t feel like I was at home. I got bullied because of my hair. I had always believed that if anyone gets bullied, they will never find home or no one will accept them. That's when my teacher told me that everyone has a home, somewhere we belong and where we are accepted for our identity. After the realization, I started to make others feel like they are home, so they feel comfortable, respected and they are loved. Since then, I began to make new friends. I started to step out of my comfort zone and I created a new home in a place I never knew I would make a home.
I know I am home when people make me feel safe and loved. Home is when me and my family laugh and have fun together. Home is when I celebrate the holidays around my family with joy, happiness, laughter and cherished moments. Home is when me and my family play games together, giggling at each other and where enjoyment takes place. Home is when me and my family’s forever affectionate bond will never break apart.
I am grateful to Habitat for Humanity for helping out those who need your support and making the world a better place to be in. I am also extremely thankful to BMO for giving a great opportunity to students who are participating in this organization.
