What is a Home?
Home to me means family. I get to help my mom bake desserts like cheesecake after an afternoon of picking cherries with my cousins. My mom never gets mad at me when I make a mistake like dropping flour on the kitchen floor. We both clean it up and she keeps her frustration inside so I never feel bad about learning. My dad comes home from work. He plays soccer with me and my brother, as well as, Don’t Let the Balloon Touch the Ground and tag (inside the house even though my mom hates it). Most of the time I lose but I still like to play. My parents gave me my favourite notebook which, when I get sad, I draw flowers, random people and animals. They always seem to know what I need. When my family and I have movie night we watch funny, scary and silly movies in Tamil, my language. When I want to play volleyball or badminton in the backyard my older sister comes and plays with me and she teaches me new skills like serving, hitting and bumping. I feel happy and excited because she rarely plays with me. My family and I also play card games like Pig, President, Mafia and sometimes, Speed. Home feels like I am visible and loved and cared for.
