Home is My Comfort Place

Many people think home is just a place for them to live, but I think otherwise. Home is a place where both sad and happy memories are created. Think of home like sunshine, which makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside because I know I am protected by caring people. My bedroom isn’t just a place for me to sleep; it’s where I cried and had nightmares in. There were times when I cried repeatedly about my parents being frustrated with me. Or times I had nightmares so terrifying; it felt like there was a monster stalking my psyche ready to pounce any moment. As I got older, my nightmares and crying sessions happened less often. It’s as if my bedroom and stuffies watched me grow into the person I am today. The kitchen is more than a place that holds food, it’s the place I share my day with my mom while she cooks my favourite foods. The kitchen is also home to the dinner table; the place my family sits together to share jokes and enjoy comfort meals. Whenever my mom cooks Chinese delicacies, it reminds me of my relatives in China. Her Chinese food is not only mouth-watering, but it also gives me a reminder I have a home in Guangzhou and Vancouver. My home’s living room is the place where I relax and take my mind off my busy schedule. I picture the living room as a fantasy land; a place I escape reality. The living room makes me forget that I am overwhelmed by schoolwork. I am incredibly grateful for the home my family gave me to thrive and be happy. This is the reason I am thankful for organizations like Habitat for Humanity to give people in need a decent home.
