What Home Means to Me

Home is a safe place. Healthy foods and cozy beds can make a house feel like a home even when it’s a new place ou’ve never been to. I am a grade five student in British Columbia. Yesterday, my school went for a Coldest Day of the Year walk to raise money for the unfortunate people who can’t afford a warm place to sleep. In total, my school raised five thousand, two hundred fifty dollars in hopes of helping the homeless. The money went to building an affordable apartment for them. I never really thought about how privileged I am to have enough to eat and how lick I am to have a warm bed to sleep in. I have a sister and two loving parents to share my home with. Some people are not so lucky, and, to have a family to love or share memories with. They are survivors and warriors. In Cumberland, British Columbia, there are shelters for women and children who are fighting a tough battle, whether it’s marriage troubles or money troubles, there are people ready to help. I am writing this only because I recognise that there are some people who don’t have a shelter, and lots of people who do have those things. I am one of the people who want to help those who are not so fortunate.
