A Safe Place... A True Story

All homes are not always safe, like mine it was not safe at all. My home was the most comforting place on the planet until one day it all happened... people started screaming, running until their breath was gone, they were all being shot and me, I was just a clueless little child. I never knew what would happen next. I had my family I thought I was safe but with each of these things happening I was practically becoming crazy. My mom knew it was time to leave Afghanistan because of the danger around us. I was upset to hear my mom say we had to leave but it was the only choice to keep us unharmed. My dad was worried about us and his job, but my mom reassured him that moving was the best decision. Every night I prayed and begged god to tell me that this was just a nightmare. Finally, one morning I found my mom looking happy and relieved. “I have bought tickets for us” she said quietly, she sighed in relief like she wanted to tell me that her whole life. “We’re going to be safe” she said with tears in her eyes. Considering that I moved here quite a while ago I just wanted to say that living in a dangerous place was not so easy for me and my family. Life in Winnipeg was a much safer choice for my household. I left most of my family in Kabul, Afghanistan but just knowing that they’re okay makes me happy. All of us need to be more grateful for our loving homes. This writing is to remind people that home is not just a place where you live in, it is the place where your heart belongs.
