My Sunlight

Early in the morning, I wake up. The sunlight beams through my window, shining brightly on my face. Some people may think this is blinding, but to me, it’s soothing. It’s like an alarm clock, telling me to get up, to get my day started. I hop out of bed. The curtains are pulled wide open, allowing the sunlight from earlier to enter once more. It’s like a blessing from above, lighting this home with trust, comfort and love. I head to my dog, who’s laying calmly on the couch. His soft and fluffy fur is comforting and smooth. He makes me smile and laugh when he twirls around, holding a leash in his mouth, begging to go walking. Even though he’s unable to speak, I can tell we have a bond. I know he’s there for me. He can be aggravating, but I know a life without my dog would be the end. My family taught me everything I know. They’ve guided me through hard times. They taught me how to make the right decisions. My family loves me with all their hearts, and they heal me when I’m harmed on the inside or outside. They hold my hand when I’m frightened and tell me everything will be alright. They’ve showed me that my home isn’t my house, it’s my family. I glance at the window. The sunlight is still beaming brightly, but now not only on me, but on this family, on this home. This sunlight was the one that got me up, that told me to get my day started, but really my family does that job. They’re the ones who get me up everyday. My family is my everything. They are my sunlight.
