Home is where the people are
Home is more than a building, it's a place where we are safe and it's a place for our feelings. I believe that everyone should have a place to call home. No matter who they are or where they’re from. They should also feel at home both physically and mentally.
My house is a place where I feel safe and comfortable. In the kitchen there are amazing smells and tastes. I love how I can walk in if I’ve had a rough day and immediately feel much better. My living room is picturesque and has familiar faces and surroundings. My bedroom is inviting, yet serene at the same time. It's like my own little sanctuary, the little closet and windows seem unimportant at first glance but when you really look you see that everything has a place. Just like how everybody has a spot in our world.
A home can mean a lot to a person even if they don’t show it. You can take your home for granted even if you don’t realize it. Most times you forget how important something is to you until you lose it. I’ve seen a lot of homeless people downtown and I take a moment to remember how lucky I am. I lived in New York before Canada and I thought that I could have only one home, but I realized that a home isn’t a thing that stays in one spot. All you have to do is give a space some love and make it your own. Then: boom, you’ve got yourself a home!
Having a home can make the world a better place, so thank you, Habitat for Humanity. You gave people a light in their darkest times.
