Home is Like a Fire

When I think of home, I think of the Greek goddess Hestia. She is the Greek goddess of the hearth, home and architecture, symbolizing the sacred fire that she keeps alive. It's a thing I always think about when I hear of home. It can be symbolic to me for when I smell my mom’s cooking. I feel that being loved is like a warm blanket for me to rest in, it's not just a feeling, it's a way to show love and being cared for. Or when my mom gets home from work and me and her just cuddle and talk about her day. I really wish that some people get to have it too, but I'm very lucky to have a place; my own fire, hearth and love. In every home, they have their own version of Lady Hestia; their own fire keeper to tend to it, a loving soul to help whenever they need help and to care for everyone in that home. To be loved isn't just a feeling. It's a memory for some people, it can be food, smell or even photos. Like how sometimes when I look at a picture, I smile or cry just from looking at it. Food can be a taste or a smell for a food, like when I make cookies with my mom. I love smelling the cookies even if sometimes I burn them, but it's the thought that counts. I hope that when I grow up I can be my own fire keeper. I would like to thank Habitat for Humanity, for this chance for me, to do this for people, to have their own place to call home.
