Feeling of Home in five senses
Home is not just a place — it is something I can hear, feel, smell, see, and taste.
I hear my siblings laughing and giggling when they are super happy and filled with joy. Their joy fills the whole house. I hear the hockey game playing on the TV and the loud goal horn when my favorite team scores. Hockey makes me feel connected to my home. When I’m playing, I feel the puck on my stick and my heart pounding with excitement. After the game, when someone says, “Good job,” I feel pride and happiness rushing through me. Most importantly, I hear my mom and dad say, “We love you,” and those words mean everything.
I feel warm hugs from my parents and siblings. I feel my dog’s soft fur when I pet him. I feel the cozy heat from the fireplace on a cold day. All of these feelings wrap around me like a blanket and remind me that I am safe and loved.
I smell my mom and dad cooking delicious food in the kitchen. I smell the gentle scent of the fireplace burning in the basement. I smell my fresh cologne and deodorant I put on in the morning as I get ready for the day. I also smell my grandma’s fried bananas sizzling with lemon and sugar, with buttery toast on the side. Those smells make our house feel warm and welcoming.
I see the bright flames of the fireplace swaying back and forth. I see the delicious food on the table that I am grateful for every day. I see my family hugging after gatherings and laughing at silly jokes. At night, I see everyone snuggling in before bed, ending the day together.
Finally, I taste my parents’ cooking, full of flavor and comfort. I taste my grandma’s sweet fried bananas melting on my tongue. But more than anything, when I am at home, I taste love.
